This is Douglas, who was 7 at the time. I was a nanny for him and his 9 year old sister, Sadie during the summer of 2006. This particular day we had gone up to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. That was when I officially decided that the zoo is way more fun when you have little kids with you! We were eating lunch when I took this picture and Doug was being the goofball that he always is and tried to make a monkey face. :) Man, I miss these guys!

It's Hip to be Square
My birthday is on Friday. But since I'm going to a wedding reception that night and then back to Salt Lake for a party the next night and then will end up just staying there for Sunday too, we celebrated today. And Mom made me cupcakes. Square ones. And they are awesome! I think square cupcakes are better than round ones. :) Though, for some reason, they are somewhat more difficult to frost.
And here's this, just because it inspired my post title. (I know it's not Huey Lewis and the News, but when I hear that song, this is what I see in my head.)

Spring...Summer...Winter?? What?!
*Remember how it's the end(ish) of May? Yeah....apparently it snowed this morning. SNOW! Yuck.
*While we're on the subject of snow, Mill Hollow starts on Thursday. Last I heard there was still 3 feet of snow up there. Again, remember how it's the end of May?
*I have a confession: I watched Glee. I know; I never thought it would happen either. But I did. I'm on episode 13. Not loving it, but it is something to watch.
*My other confession: I absolutely LOVE the Disney channel show Sonny With a Chance. It's brilliant.
*I love that when I get together with my friends, we go to the temple and Joseph Smith movie for fun. (It helps that it's a free activity. :) )
*I went back and watched the first grade program on Friday. I've missed those kids! And I loved the look of surprise I got from all of them when they came back to the classroom and saw me waiting for them. :) It makes me excited for student teaching.
*I love the rain. Really, I do. But I'm also ready for it to go away so it can be summer already.

Fire! Fire! Fire!
Once upon a time I went to Logan to go to a movie with some friends. We wanted to go at 7:15, but when we got to the theatre, that showing was sold out. So we bought tickets for the 9:25 show. We went, laughed, ate junk food, and had a blast. Then as we're driving back to my friend's apartment, we're all of a sudden confronted with thousands of flashing lights. Okay, so thousands is exaggerating a little bit. But it was a lot. Neither of us knows what the heck is going on. I thought about calling Lacey to see if she knew, but since it was after 11, I was pretty sure she'd be in bed. Boy was I wrong. The apartments upstairs from her and Luke had caught fire. My friend lives in the complex behind theirs. So we park a block or so away, and walk down to where Lacey was and get the scoop as to what's going on. Then I realized that my car was blocked in by 3 fire trucks and a bunch of hoses. Go figure. How was I supposed to get home now? Well, we talked to Aundrea's bishopric for a few minutes and then we decided to go ask the firemen if they would let me out. Good news...they were super friendly and after teasing me for a minute, they said it was totally okay for me to leave. I felt kinda special getting to drive in the middle of all the fire trucks and police cars and ambulances.
In the midst of all of this, it was Lacey's birthday. Some birthday present, eh?
Also, Rian's birthday is tomorrow. So happy birthday to both of them!

Things I Love & Miss
As much as I love summer, I sometimes think it's the hardest part of the year. Being at home definitely puts a damper on the social life that I crave. I miss all of my friends. I miss my roommates. I miss campus (strange, I know). I miss teaching. And I miss IWA. Elise and I often talk about next year, and all the fun we're going to have on the IC. And really, I'm super excited for it. But right now August seems so blasted far away! So instead of dwelling on how pathetic my life has suddenly become, I spent the past few hours looking at pictures from the past 2 years in IWA and thought I'd share some of my favorites. :)

Summer
I moved home for the summer yesterday. I can't decide if that's really a good thing yet, or not. So I've decided to make a list of pros and cons to it. Here we go!
Cons:
Cons:
- Almost nonexistent social life
- Chores
- Sharing the bathroom with my brother
- NetFlix--I can now watch unlimited Hannah Montana and anything else I want on the view instantly.
- I don't have to buy groceries anymore
- My own room (I love roommates, but I was ready for my own space again)
- Unlimited access to a piano
- A chance to sleep in every day
- Free laundry (not that I didn't come home to do it in the first place. But at least now I don't have to drive to do it.)
- Starting in a few weeks, I'll only be here on the weekends. Which means my social life won't be completely gone.
- I get to spend some time with Rian before he leaves for 2 years

And the Verdict Is....
I miss first grade. More than I ever missed preschool. Though I did randomly see two of my students over the weekend. That was exciting. They're doing their first grade program in a few weeks. I think I'm going to go and surprise my class. :) Remember how I mentioned that I hadn't told them when my last day was? Turns out Mrs. Mangum did, and in reading groups all week she had them all write me a note and draw me a picture. And they got me a book for my library and they all signed it. I think they were my favorite class ever! The really good news, though, is that Mrs. Mangum got my number so that she can call me to sub for her after I graduate in December. Yay! Also, I got my student teaching placement on Friday. I'll be at Sunrise, starting with 5th grade. Yikes! I've never done anything above third, so we'll see how this goes. I'll be in kindergarten for my second block. I get the feeling I'll be much more comfortable there.
I did two of my three finals today. Science and social studies. Oh and went to a math review. Don't worry. I'm probably going to fail my math test. Whatever my teacher told us in class had absolutely nothing to do with actually teaching math. So naturally I forgot it all, and in the review session today I felt like I was sitting in a foreign language class. Yeah, not cool. We'll see what happens come Wednesday. I also need to start packing. Normally, I'm half way done by now. But I haven't touched anything. When did I turn into such a lazy bum?! Maybe I should start working on that. Then again, it can always wait until tomorrow. :)
