Webquests

Today was interesting. We learned about webquests. Yeah, I'd never heard of them before either. It's this awesome website where you can find lessons for your students to complete, using the internet. So that way your students get to use the internet and become more proficient at it, while actually learning something. Caitie and I did a third grade level one today about hiring new musicians from the Philharmonic Orchestra to take the place of the woodwind players in the Philadelphia Orchestra. We were able to learn about some of the actual players in the Philharmonic and the instruments that they play. The song they were going to play was Peter and the Wolf (which is awesome by the way). So students would also be able to learn how music can tell a story, and how each instrument has a specific roll in an orchestra. It was really neat. Something like this would be very useful in the classroom as a center and to expand what is being learned as a whole class. By using webquests, students also have the opportunity to learn about something interesting to them.
